Hymenolepis diminuta egg - spherical, yellow - brown shell, thin colourless embryophore 60 - 85 microns (note no polar filaments as seen in H. nana). In saline faecal preparation. Usual definitive host is the rat but humans may become accidentally infected after ingesting the intermediate host, flea or beetle.
